  1. Local Songs (continued)

    When on this card you fix your eyes ¶ This ancient church you'll recognise;

    (continued from previous page)
    Without attending Holy Mass;
    To this church they oft times trod
    To praise, and honour Almighty God.
    Down in that aisle which I know well
    Baptismal water on me fell;
    To Sunday school long long ago
    Unto this church I oft did go.
    Though costly churches in this land
    With lofty spires may seem more grand
    I'll not forget where'er I roam
    This humble one so near my home.

    This song was also composed by John Murray and sent to a friend who had sold his farm.
    My friend sincere, it seemed so queer, to me when first I heard
    That you have sold the house of old wherein you all were reared
    That you today live far away from Croghan hill so high
    That strangers now, your land will plough, and homestead occupy.
    Your good old name of Croghan fame, will now inherit not
    That farm neat, and home complete, that no cold stranger might
    The old abode by Crogan road, no Tomany shall own;
    Since you're gone down by Invinestown, to the co. of Tyrone.
