    now gone used vie with one another in their prowess at mowing. They used follow one another in a field in order to see which of them could mow the most.
    The Duffys of Corracharra and Thomas Duffy of Lisnadarra were amongst the best in the county. To mow an acre in a day was quite a common thing then. Now he would be considered a good mower who mowed three roods.
