- We have a churn at home. It is two feet in height and is one foot six inches at the top and bottom. The sides are bulged out in the middle. The different parts of the churn are - the barrel, lid, handle, stand, air-pump and the glass. The butter is made in our home about three times in Summer and twice in Winter, every week.
The maid does the churning. The takes a half an hour or three quarters. The glass becomes clear when the butter is done. Water is sometimes poured in to gather the butter. The butter is lifted out in a strainer. It is then put into a big wooden dish and is washed to take the butter milk out of it. It is salted and rinsed again. It is then weighed, and clapped out and shaped. The butter is papered and is ready for sale.
