    these travellers came round, some people would keep them if they wanted to be kept, but others would not. They generally stayed for one night and then travelled on. The people would give them food, and money to classes of them. The people would either put a shake-down on the floor or else if there was hay in a barn or a shed they would let them lie in it. They travelled on foot.
