A Song
“The sixth of October in the year "29,”
A Song
The sixth of October in the year '29
Will well be remembered round Erin's green isle
For Co of Monaghan suffered great loss
By the big floods that came,
And the bridges it tossed.
Around Knockatallon and about a Duffy's mill
All low-lying houses and shops it did fill
And as it moved onward towards Ballinode,
Some left their houses,
And took to the road.
It's now to conclude and to finish my song,
This day will be remembered for ever so long,
And now we will thank the great God above,
For saving our lives,
Him we'll cherish and love.(continues on next page)- Collector
