- About a half a mile from our school, in the year 1878 there lived an old man in a little thatched house in Tirnaskea in the Parish of Tydavnet. This old man's name was Mr Flannigan. He lived by himself and he was very rich. He went to bed one night. A man from Clones named Joe Fee came to the house. He broke in and took all his money from him. Then he killed him. He buried him in a manure heap. There was a young man drowing the manure in a horse and cart and he found Mr Flannigan's leg sticking out of it.

- About two mile from our school, in the year 1886, there lived two old men at Wattsbridge in the parish of Clogh. They had plenty of money. They were robbed and then they were murdered. It was blamed on John McNiece. The guards saw blood on his boots and trousers. But he was killing pigs. He was taken and tried. They found out that it was not Mr. McNiece so they let him go. They never got the man who killed them.
