- (continued from previous page)discovered. It was thought, however, a match had been thrown down on the sawdust and that it smouldered until it reached the timber. The fire was first seen by the post-man who was on his way to the post office for the mail and he gave the alarm. It was not long until the guards and many other willing helpers were on the scene.
The heavens seemed on fire and millions of sparks were seen flying in the air. Rolling one above the other were sheets of flame while clouds of black smoke were driven in every direction. The cry of "Fire" grew louder and louder as the crackling of flames could be heard more plainly as fresh fuel burned more furiously.
There were figures tearing to and fro endeavouring to remove books, papers, bills and money and many other things which could not be replaced. The building which was a creamery the night before was then a blackened ruin. It was rebuilt a short time after-wards.
