- In the parish of Lisdowney, Co. Kilkenny there is a piece of low-lying land which in olden times was called the Dooneeach. It is divided into two fields and in one of those fields is a spring which was called the Dhooneeach Well and it was from this well that people got the water in olden times. Lisdowney got its name from this well for in Irish Lisdowney was known as Lis-dhoo-nee which means "Fort of Dhooneeach".
There is one mass station in the parish of Lisdowney and this is in the townland of Aharney. It is commonly known as the Mass Pit and Mass was said here until the year 1750.- Collector
