  1. Nowadays when a person wants a suit of clothes he buys the material in the draper's shop.
    Then he gets it made by the local tailor.
    Long ago this was not the case. At the time the people made the cloth in their own homes. Then they invited a travelling tailor to make the clothes. The tailor at that time had no house of his own but went around from house to house making clothes for all the male inhabitants of the house. He was supported by the people of the house and sometimes there was no one more welcome to a house than him. The implements he carried with him were a needle, thimble, scissors, iron, chalk and lap-board. As a bench he used the kitchen table. He usually possessed a keen wit and he also had a store of old stories. Sometimes he made a suit of
