On Sheen's green banks in days of old A dreadful fight was won.

    (continued from previous page)
Seven at a side lay stretched in death
    And one there wounded lay
And one unhurt and out of breath
    Stood victor of the fray.
The dying man in accents weak
    The survivor thus addressed
A drink a drink for mercy sake
    A drink my last request
With helmet doffed the warrior sped
And fetched it from the flood
For the base wretch though nearly dead
    Was thirsting for his blood
When stooping o'er his fallen foe
    Kind solace to impart
The villain aimed a dying blow
And stabbed him through the heart
The comrades of the dying man
Set up the war hoot cry
To take revenge they quickly ran
    To take revenge or die.
    Their enemies in full retreat
    Fled for the mountain glen
Chased by a host urged on by hate
    A host of furious men.
