    Costelloe refused and that made Elliot more angry still. He threatened to have the contract taken from Costelloe at the next Grand Jury meeting in Kilkenny if he didn't cut the bough Costelloe still refused. That evening Costelloe went to the parish priest Father Dan Brennan & told his story & the priest advised him to tell Elliot to come & cut it himself Costelloe did as he was told. Elliot was determined to have his way so he sent his own man to cut the bough The man came & when he was cutting the bough a thorn entered his hand That night his hand swelled & he was dead before morning as a result of blood poisoning.
    Another story goes that another man came to cut the bush. He had a view of his own house from the position he was in. He got ready & was about to commence when he happened to look towards his own house. He thought the house was on fire; he thought he saw flames & smoke coming from the house. He dashed away from the bush
