- In olden times people ate three meals aday, breakfast, dinner and supper. Breakfast was eaten early in the morning, dinner at twelve o'clock and supper at six o'clock. People often worked in the morning before breakfast. Cows were milked and all the animals were looked after before breakfast was taken.
Whole meal bread and butter milk were used for breakfast. Potatoes and butter milk for dinner and stirabout and milk for supper. Meat was seldom eaten except on very few occasions. Oaten meal bread was eaten sometimes. Water was used in the making of this bread and it was very hard to eat.
The people sat around the table which was placed near the wall. The table was hung up when not in use. Sometimes the top of the table was turned back and made into a seat. This kind of table was called a settle table. A lot of eggs were eaten at Easter especially on Easter Sunday morning. This was done to make up for the black fast during Lent.(continues on next page)- Collector
