- The Barrow Starch Works
Within a hundred yards of the left bank of the river Barrow, the Barrow starch works are situated. From a distance are recognised by a tall chimney.
The history of the Barrow Mills runs back to 1842 it was then founded by the father of Mr Kelly and employed wheat as raw material. It afterwards became sole survivor of its kind. When it was no longer profitable to use wheat a determination was made to immate the plans of the English change was affected to rice.
