  1. During the "Penal Days" when schools were condemed in the country many old hedge-schools existed. Teachers who used to teach in these schools were looked on as daring teachers. If they were caught by the soldiers they were killed.
    Oftentimes school - hours were carried on in farmers houses. Irish and Arithmetic were the two subjects mostly taught. The children sat round on the grass while the teacher stood in their midst. The
