    the end of the week. The white dove alighted on the palm tree, and, having stayed there for a few moments, flew heavenwards in the presence of the curate and the Irish boys.
    The curate breathed a sign of relief. He next set himself to get a position for the two immigrants "from the old country". They decided that they would not look for positions yielding any worldly gain. The interview with the departed soul had changed their outlook on life, and they made up their minds to enter a monastery and spend their lives in the service of God. They joined an order of monks in that city and spent their lives as lay brothers in prayer and penance, preparing daily for the next life. They corresponded with their friends in Ireland regularly until their death.
    P.S. Mr Voss emphasised that the two young men thought at first that the congregation was made up of people of this life and that the priest was also alive. There was only a narrow
