St Stephens Day. A very old custom is held on this day. All men, boys & even girls, dress up & go around from house to (hose) house collecting money. They dress an old bush with rags & coloured papers. They also bring a box in which to collect money & also a musical instrument. They sing "The wren the wren the king of all birds St Stephens Day he was caught in the furze although he was small his honour was great get up ladadda & give us a thrate, whoever lives here is a very fine man he gave us a shilling to bury the wren pockets of money & barrells of beer & I wish ye all a happy new year.(continues on next page)- Collector
