  1. The local ruling Irish family was the McMahons'. The remains of their castle in Conaghy can still be seen. The Clann McMahon were more staunch and numerous around Scotshouse and Drum. At Stonebridge on the road leading from Clones to Monaghan in the townland of Shanmullagh are caves known as the "Shanmullagh Caves". There is a pathway into the Caves, and it is there the McMahon's hid their valuables. Several of the young people around Stonebridge have recently entered the caves, but before going very far, became nervous and returned.
