- There are four or five fairy forts in the district. They are called raths There is one in Coldstown one in Knockfield one in Carrigeen and one in Plunketstown.
All the raths are in view of each other. They are all circular. There is a mound of earth around each rath and there are some trees on top of the mound
There is a lone bush near the rath and it is said that if you cut it down that the fairies would put a wreath of thorns in your bed that night
There is a rath about a mile outside Ballitore. It is the rath of Mullaghmast. About two centuries ago the English chiefs invited the Irish chiefs to a feast(continues on next page)- Collector
