- When snow is in on the ground a door or a few boards nailed together is sometimes used to kill birds. A piece of ground near where birds are to be seen picking is cleared of snow. The door with the flat side towards the ground is placed over the cleared piece of ground, with one end resting on the ground and the other held elevated by means of a piece of stick about two feet long. A long piece of twine, or rope is tied to the stick. Corn is thrown on the ground under the door. The person operating the trap catches the end of the twine and hides. When the(continues on next page)
