    planted whole.
    The local people help one another in sowing the potatoes. They help to lay the seed potatoes. Sometimes a plough and horses is lent.
    During the Summer months the crop is carefully hoed and kept free from weeds.
    In Autumn the potatoes are dug from the ground with the plough. My brothers and I generally pick the potatoes on our farm. The potatoes are picked in baskets. Then they are put into pits which have been prepared for them. When the potatoes are piled into pits they are first covered with rushes and then with clay.
    The following are the names of the potatoes grown in this district.
    Arran Banner; Arran Chief; Arran Victory; Champions; Shamrocks; Irish Queens; Golden Wonder;
    The Irish Queens grow best in this district.
