    In olden times the people had not so many meals a day as we have now.

    In olden times the people had not so many meals a day as we have now. The rich people had three - and the poorer two. These meals usually consisted of breakfast, dinner and tea. The poorer people having only breakfast and dinner. The breakfast consisted of porridge and buttermilk, the dinner of potatoes, salt, butter and sometimes vegetables and a cup of milk; the tea of another plate of porridge or "Stirabout" as it was then called. Some people lived chiefly on potatoes and eat them for every meal.
