    A boy named Seán mc Gowan
    Whose deeds of valour far and near
    Have won for him renoun
    T'was then too that Irish spies
    Were in the R.I.C.
    And it was then too that men were bought for Englands L.S.D.
    But mc Gowan he played a manly part and refused for them to cease
    He led his men to victory with an Irish soldiers ease
    And when they could not capture him
    In the thickest of the fight
    They came as England always came
    At they dead hour of the night
    Yes they came yet not with marshal cry
    Like men who knew no fear
    They came like the slinking sloth hound
    That tracts the noble deer
    They surrounded the little dwelling house
    Of poor old Patrick Dyer
    With English "Tans" and R.I.C.
    With rifles at the fire
    The spy that led them to the place
    Stood by with down cast
    When he was asked by the English captain
    Was that the man he caught
