- (continued from previous page)the burning was going on, the top of the Kiln was covered to prevent the heat escaping and when the last layer of stones was burninng it was allowed to remain for three or four days to cool. When the owner was ready to draw the Kiln he removed the sods from overhead. He then commenced at the pipe to take away the lime.
He drew it out with a shovel and according as he kept drawing it out it kept falling down.My grandfather said that this was the ways the made lime in olden times.Joseph Rhatigan 11th January 1939.- Collector
