  1. Once upon a time, there lived a man near the Shannon. He had a crop of corn there. As it grew up he noticed that something was eating it.
    One day he watched it but could see nothing. So, he decided to watch it at night. He did so. At about twelve o'clock three horses came up out of the Shannon and began to eat it. He watched them until they left it. Then he went home.
    The next day he met a tramp. He told the farmer to watch it the next night and to put a head collar on the one that stay
