There was a "soup" school in Carrigeen near Ballymoe where the pupils used to get a "parley" of oatmeal bread and a cup of soup every day. Mr Saulce was the teacher. The road of the school was afterwards known as Saulce's Boírín. This was a Protestant school but some Catholics went there to get the cup of soup and the oatmeal bread.
