- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)He had a little whip for punishing them. Then he would run to chastise them and would fall on the top of his head and the chair on top of him. He turned out good scholars. The pupils were able to make up short accounts and were good at spelling and writing.
There was a "soup" school in Carrigeen near Ballymoe where the pupils used to get a "parley" of oatmeal bread and a cup of soup every day. Mr Saulce was the teacher. The road of the school was afterwards known as Saulce's Boírín. This was a Protestant school but some Catholics went there to get the cup of soup and the oatmeal bread. It was the landlord's school and he gave the food in order to bring the Catholics children there.- Bailitheoir
