   In olden times the people almost always ate oaten bread which was made at home from oats. Flour was made locally. Querns were round flat stones made (flat) from clay, on which the people made the bread. The different kinds of bread were oaten bread, potato cakes and oaten meal bread. potato cakes were made from flour and potatoes. The potatoes are first made flat by a wooden pounder called a "potato pounder" and they are then mixed with the flour. They are made in the shape of a triangle. Buttermilk and
