This agreement the people readily agreed to as in many cases these roads led to the sea-shore and provided a great convenience to procure sea-weed and sand for manure. A number of roads are of recent dates. Wages paid by the Board of Works was, eight-pence per day and to handy or skilled men one shilling. Working hours whether Summer or Winter were so long as it was light. - The main roads are Rerrin road going to the east end of the Island. From Rerrin it would lead you to Cloughland and the town-land of Greenane. The road to Ardagh leads you to the Church then to the west-end of the Island.
