    If a stranger milked another's cow on a May-day morning, it is said that the latter's cows would not give sufficient yield of milk for the rest of the year.
    It generally takes about twenty five minutes to make the churn in summer, and about three quarters of an hour or sometimes an hour in winter.
    When butter is made, a heavy thud is heard inside the barrel. It is then turned slowly, so that the particles of butter may gather together. The buttermilk is then drawn, and cold spring water is poured in. This washes the butter, and keeps it from lieing to the sides of the barrel. The butter is then taken out by butter spades, and
