    "Nettlesome Night"
    May Eve is sometimes known in this district as Nettlesome Night. It is a custom for grown up boys and girls to go around with a bunch of nettles concealed on their persons and when one of their companions of either sex is met with, a battle of nettles ensues, and some serious stings often result from the encounter.
