- I have heard my Grandmother say that she often saw her mother making candles.
First she melted fat in a pot and when it was melted she poured it into a mould which was made of tin - the shape of a candle with a cotton thread running through the centre of it. A nail was then placed on top of the wick so as to keep it there and the mould was put into water so as to harden the fat. When hard the nail was taken up and with it came a candle ready for use. - You are not logged in, but you are welcome to contribute a transcription anonymously.
