- Lore of Certain DaysIt was believed by the old people that there were certain days lucky or unlucky for which they did. It was believed that if a person got sick on Friday he would never recover from that illness. If a person got sick with even the slightest illness on the Thursday before Christmas he would never recover. If a person wanted to be cured at a Holy Well he should go and make a rounds there on Friday, Saturday, and again on Sunday morning as no other day would do. It was counted unlucky for a person to change from one house to another on Monday, Wednesday or Friday or to change from one type of work to another on Friday. It was counted unlucky for a smith to redden a forge or for a farmer to plough a scrape of ground on Good Friday. Potatoes should be planted before St Patrick's Day and should be dug before November Day.
