any food, so he ordered the people of the surrounding district to strip their pits of potatoes so that the rooks could eat them. He had no thought what so ever of what themselves would have for the year, although the potato was the only food they had for themselves. There was one man in Dreenane named Charlus Mac Carthy and he had ten baskets of carpink potatoes once and he didn't want to let them go to the rooks so he buried them all level with the ground, and any one wouldn't know that there would be anything under the ground, because he had it so level. But alas when he went for them, they were all rotten and he hadn't any potatoes then.
