- It is supposed that there is a treasure hidden in the Old Court, Ardrum, Inniscarra.
It was placed there by a member of the Colthurst family some centuries ago.
Attempts were made to unearth the treasure by a person whose name is unknown.
As he was digging, he was hunted by a black bull, which was minding the treasure.
The treasure consists of a crock of gold, the value of which is unknown.
Buried gold, or silver, has never been discovered in my district, except in the Old Court.
2nd version
There is a stream about thirty yards from the Court, and it is said that if a person got the gold, that he should cross the stream quickly, lest the spirits would get up to him. It is said that if the spirits got up to him before he reached the stream, he would faint, and on awakening the gold would be gone.
There are alot of forts in my parish, and the old people believe that there is wealth hidden in them, but they are afraid to interfere with them, lest the "good people" would harm them.(continues on next page)- Collector
