are no such noises heard now-a-days.
Already described in this book is a Rock-Stone situated in the lands of Daniel O'Rally, Berrings, Inniscarra.
There is also in the farm of James O'Mahony, Berrings, a large stone pillar in the centre of a large field, but local people cannot give any account of its origin or object.
It is said by some local people that many have missed their way by night in this same field, through which runs a path. It is not due to the presence of "Jacky - the - Lantern, who has been seen in other parts of the neighbourhood and who can, according to the local people, be outdone by turning your coat inside out. My idea is that the size of the field is responsible for any confusion in the brain of those travelling through the field by night.

The floors of nearly all houses in this locality at one time had earthen floors in the kitchens, and in may instances, especially in the houses of labouring men there was only an earthen floor in the bed room.
