- The present Catholic Church of Glantane was completed about the year 1878. It occupies the site of the previous church. At some little distance from the old church was the belfry, the lower portion of which was utilised as a shed or store-room. Some men who were very fond of card-playing used to meet in this shed before Mass to have a game of cards and it is said that they often continued the game even after Mass commenced.
On one Sunday the game was continued up to the most solemn part of the Mass. Just then a complete stranger joined them and asked for a "hand of cards". A card feel on the floor near the stranger's foot. The dealer, when about to pick it up noticed that the stranger's feet were cloven hooves.
That was the last of the card-playing in the old belfry.------------------------------------------------------
