- (continued from previous page)The firkin was barrel shaped and made of oak or any other suitable timber and bound with twig hoops. It was capable of holding about 70lbs of butter.
Soap was made with texalo crystals got from England. The texalo crystals were dissolved in boiling water. The fat was melted and crystals and fat were well mixed together. When cool it made a very good soap for household purposes.There were men in each district who made baskets from sallies.
