    She had a small earthen-ware tea-pot for her own special use. One day she had the tea-pot by the fire, when warning came that the rent-warner was in the yard. Realizing that she had no time to hide the offending tea-pot, she kicked it into the ash-corner. The poor woman was in terror while this man was in the kitchen, examining every nook in hope of finding something to report to his master, and great was her relief when he left without seeing the tea-pot lying broken in the ash-pit. Once an industrious farmer had a new gate erected near his dwelling. The landlord was notified in due course
