- The fairs are held now at Mallow, Rathduff, and Castletownroche. The fairs are always held in towns.
Long ago they were held at crossroads and all the buyers used to come there on horse-back because they had no motors. It is not done that way at all now. They are not held in the Streets at all but in the fair-field. A person should pay money in the fair-field six pence for horses, three pence for cattle, and two pence for sheep and pigs.
When animals are sold a few pence each is given as luck. They mark the cattle with mud and sometimes they clip hair off their sides.- Collector
