A rumour was common that the fox was enchanted Mr Spratt was a very proud man and always expressed a wish to be buried alone, He gave orders to make a rave on the rock where he was to be buried.
He also gave orders to have his dog, his gun, and his favourite horse "Ketch" to be buried with him. A stone stairs was made from the grave to the great house. In the course of a few years he died and all his wishes were fulfilled.
Since then the people come to see the place which is still known as "Spratts Grave "

    Rockmills
The population of Rockmills about one hundred years ago was 500. There was a fair share of them Protestants. There were butchers, Tailors, Blacksmiths, Weavers and Carpenters.
There was a large coal store and a large flour mill. It was the fourth largest mill in Ireland and the mill wheel was the largest mill wheel in Ireland. The wheat was produced locally and it turned out 120,000 sacks of flour every year. The flour was sent to all parts of Ireland even to Dublin by road.
Tras-scríofa ag duine dár meitheal tras-scríbhneoirí deonacha.
