1. A Story

   

   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   There is a farmer at the utmost end of the parish on the north side, with part of the land in Co Cork, and a part in the county Limerick of which there are weird stories told.

   It was in the occupation of a Protestant at the time of the incident. There was a catholic workman employed who used to sleep in a settle bed, in the kitchen. This bed is made of timber, and could be folded up by day and would be often used as a table for servants, or for sitting on.

   At night when the workman would go to rest he would be disturbed by the noises of cups and saucers in the kitchen and hurling matches played in the field ajacent to the house. These thing were supposed to be the work of the fairies.

   One night in spring as the cows were stalled near the house, it was the mans duty to look after them about mid-night. He got up and he thought he heard some unusual noise around the stall. He opened the door to go out and see what was wrong. As he was facing the stall a stormy wind rose, and he was feeling queer when an extra tall man bent
