- Some common birds in our district (Acres, Fermoy, Co Cork) are blackbirds and thrushes. The linnet, the gold finch and the bull finch are others not as common. All these except the bull finch are song birds.
The well known blackbird builds her nest on whitethorn bushes. She lays five or six eggs and she takes three weeks to hatch them.
The thrush, another delightful singer, also builds on whitethorn trees.
The linnet builds her nest on ivied walls and in little bushes. She builds it with moss & sticks. She lays three of four eggs and sits on them for about a fortnight. The gold finch builds on apple trees in gardens. She is a sweet song bird and is often kept in cages.
The bull finch builds in spruce and fir trees.- Collector
