    Well furnished up on a holly tree,
    A bunch of ribbons by his side and one of our wren boys to be his guide.
    We hunted this wren all day, all day,
    Through muddy water and yellow clay
    From bush to bush and and from tree to tree,
    And in Boreen na thárche
    At Carraig na bric we broke his neck and in Strawhall we paid for all,
    I have a little box under my arm,
    a penny or two will do it no harm,
    If you fill it of the best,
    I hope in heaven your soul will rest.
    If you fill it of the small,
    It will not agree with the wren boys at all.
    Up with the kettle and down with the pan,
    Give us our answer and let us begone"
