    In a few days after, as Buckley was working in the fields he saw the pedlar. A party of soldiers came several times in search of him; knowing their errand and knowing the almost certain fate of any unfortunate Irish Catholic who had the misfortune of being charged with any crime in those days, he took to his heels thinking to remain out of the way until the storm would have blown over, but in this way he was sadly mistaken, for the pedlar and soldiers came several times in search of him, and seeing but a poor chance of escaping, if he remained at home. He resolved to take to the highway as the only means of support.
    His particular place of abode was a small low hut, covered with sods, and almost on a level with the surface of the mountain.
