    that it would slip from the thumb when the sling is a slot between the two cords where a flat stone is placed, about three inches from the point of the rod, the rod is drawn tight by the thumb when using the sling to keep the stone in place. With a little skill the stone can be cast a distance of 400 yds. It was used about fifty years ago. The little girls long used to fashion cups and saucers out of acorns, which were much nicer than to have a set of earthen ones supplied. Other little girls used to make dolls out of potatoes.
    They used to get a good big potato and get two little sticks for her eyes, one for her nose, two for her hands and legs, and then the doll was complete. It used to be a great source of amusement to them. In the Summer the little girls used to make daisy-chains
