    In olden times it used to be the custom to get married on Shrove Tuesday. It was always thought to be very lucky. The people were not very wealthy and they had not much money to give away to their sons and daughters.
    There was a very old man in this district. He was a great match-maker. His name was William O Connell. The weddings were kept as a great secret for fear of stealing the bride away.
