    are catholics.
    The most of the houses in the district are now slated. Formerly there were numerous thatched cabins, and the ruins of ten or twelve are now visible. The people who lived in those cabins mostly all emigrated to America, when times were bad and work and money were scarce.
    There is only one old aged pensioner in the townland. He does not know Irish, nor is he much good for telling English stories. His name is Patrick O'Shaughnessy.
    The land in this place varies, it is not very level and some places it is rushy and wet. The land is fairly good close to the Shannon. The nearest bogland is about four miles away and we have to get our supply of turf.
