  1. There is an old castle at Shanid. It is a very old ruin and it is there since the time of the Geraldines. When the Geraldines wanted to signal to the Geraldines in Askeaton they used to get a lamp and go up to the top of the castle and the Gealdines in Askeaton could see them.
    It is said that there is gold buried there since the time of the Geraldines. There is a cellar under the castle in which the Geraldines used to keep people in prison.
