    to tradition, from Ballycormac to Shanid Castle, and from there to the Abbey as a means of escape in case of defeat.
    There is also a ruined Abbey in the same townland.
    Near the school are the ruins of a church which was built by St Senan. This church was rebuilt, and in the Penal days it was taken from the Catholics by the Protestants and since, once a year, Protestant service is held in it, but the grounds around it are the property of the Catholics. On the old part of the church there are carvings of monks heads at either side of one of the windows.
