    During the 15th century it was used as a convent, but in 1426 it was dissolved by the pope on account of the bad conduct of the prioress, who was a lady of the Fitzgerald family. It appears that she had taken to witchcraft and fortune telling.
    After the nun's departure, she lived in the sacristy of the convent. She attained a great age, and was so old that her face was black. She was frequently seen in the fields gathering herbs. One day she was found dead outside the sacristy door. This part of the abbey is known as Black Hag's cell
